The 2014 World Orienteering Championship Sprint Finals were held on the island of Venice in early July. What a fabulous area for sprint orienteering!
Unfortunately none of the Canadian team made it to the finals but it was still exciting to watch all the other athletes dart in and out of the alleys, parks, and plazzas.  The athlete photos were taken at the Qualification race on the island of Burano.

The day after the Sprint Final, Gloria and I walked the course and took pictures at most of the control sites for the photo-O. Several of the sites were indistinguishable from other sites (in a photo) so I have excluded them from the set. For example, the "objects" at the crossover and GO controls were gone.

You can find the control descriptions on the map file. The photos were taken at random angles - indicating the angle for this photo-O would make it too easy. : )  Gloria is posing at several of the sites to help you locate exactly where the flag was hung.

There are 15 control sites in the set, randomly identified as A thru O. The sites that I have included are:
START - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 12 - 13 - 17 - 18 - 19 - FINISH

The winner of this race took only 14 minutes to complete his course. Can you match the photos to the map control areas just as quickly? The resolution of the photos is pretty good so you can expand them for closer viewing.

The link to the map file is HERE.   NOTE: In Internet Explorer (for example), right-click and "Open in a new window" so you can arrange the windows and view the photos and map as a split screen. If you can't configure a split screen, print the map - it's easier than flicking back and forth.

Here are the ANSWERS.    Cheers, Bill Anderson
